BDC: "The process always starts with a feeling or a concept"
BDC is a Belgian DJ and producer of melodic techno from Hasselt, known for his engaging soundscapes and energetic performances at festivals like Tomorrowland. As the founder of Liminal Records, he has released popular tracks supported by industry heavyweights such as Kevin De Vries and David Guetta. He also hosts successful events at Café Café, captivating audiences with his unique sound and creative vision.
You have your own label, Liminal Records. How does running a label influence your approach to music?
Running Liminal Records has been a big dream and an incredible learning experience. It’s not just about producing music anymore; it’s about finding and nurturing new talent, thinking about branding, and creating a platform for others. It’s pushed me to think differently about my own music too. When I’m producing for the label, I’m more aware of the bigger picture – how a release fits into the label’s identity and how it contributes to the wider music scene. It’s made me more experimental as well, since I want Liminal to be a place where artists feel free to push boundaries.
You’ve performed at major festivals like Tomorrowland and Extrema Outdoor. How do you prepare for such large-scale performances?
Preparation is key for those shows. The energy is completely different compared to smaller venues like Café Café, where I host my own concept. For festivals like Tomorrowland, I spend weeks refining my set. I think about the time slot I’m playing, the vibe of the festival, and the kind of energy I want to bring. The biggest challenge is reading the crowd – it’s about creating a journey that keeps people engaged. I also prepare technically, making sure I know my equipment inside out, so that I can react to the moment and improvise if needed. Every set is unique, and I want to give the crowd something they’ve never heard before.
Speaking of festivals, do you have any memorable moments from performing that you can share with us?
Definitely. One of my most memorable moments was playing Tomorrowland Winter. It was surreal – spinning tracks with the snow-covered mountains in the background. At one point during my set, the sun started to set, and it was like everything just aligned perfectly – the crowd, the music, the environment. That’s one of the moments where you realize why you do this. It’s those magical experiences that stay with you.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming releases or projects you’re excited about?
I’ve got a lot in the works right now. I’m releasing new music in the coming months on Liminal Records soon, which I’m really excited about. It’s a bit darker and more experimental than my previous releases, but I think it represents where I am creatively. I’m also working on more collaborations with other artists in the scene, which has been really inspiring. And of course, I’m planning some exciting live shows for next year with adding instruments like handpan’s – I can’t reveal too much yet, but there’s a lot to look forward to.
Lastly, what message would you like to share with your fans and anyone who follows your journey?
I just want to say thank you for all the support. It means the world to me to see people connect with the music I create. Whether you’ve been to one of my shows, streamed a track, or followed my journey on social media, you’re a part of this. Music is a shared experience, and I feel grateful every time I get to perform or release something new. I also encourage everyone to stay curious, both in music and in life. There’s so much out there to discover, and I hope my music helps inspire that sense of exploration. I’m just getting started, and I can’t wait to show you what’s next.
