"Malo Malo" is your latest release with Yvvan Back and Bla-De on MI.BARRIO Records. How did this collaboration come about, and what vibe were you aiming to create with this track?
We reached out to Bla-Dee for a collaboration, and he agreed by sending us some vocal ideas. The concept of the track was to create a hypnotic Latin tech House track that could make the girls dance. When we sent him the final result, he told us that we had nailed the goal, it was exactly the vibe we were all looking for.
Some of the biggest DJs have played your tracks at major festivals like Tomorrowland, Ultra Europe, and Ushuaia Ibiza. Was there a particular moment when you felt your music was truly making an impact on the electronic music scene?
One moment I remember so well is when Cloonee played "Clap Clap" for the first time at Ushuaïa Ibiza; the track was still just a demo, and we had no idea if it would even get released. Not long after, tons of other artists in the scene started playing it at the festivals you just mentioned. Then one day, a friend sent me a video from Tomorrowland with my track playing, I was over the moon! That moment gave me such a boost to keep producing and push myself even further.
You’ve made it into the Beatport Top 100 three times. What do you think was the key to that success, and what elements do you always aim to include in your productions?
I think the key to success is consistency and just keeping at it. Less than 10% of the tracks I make actually get released. As for my sound, I love experimenting with different subgenres, but I always try to leave my mark. I keep certain signature elements like fills, percussion, and track structures so that when you hear it, you just know: This is a Dave track!
Your sound blends house and tech house with a distinct personal touch. Which artists or genres have influenced your style the most?
I get inspiration from a lot of different music. My favorite band is still Depeche Mode, and I listen to a lot of non-electronic stuff like rock, funk, and soul, so I often pull ideas from those genres. In the scene, some of the artists that inspire me right now are Franky Rizardo, Blackchild, Cloonee, Andruss, and others in that vibe.
