Max Grillo: "The next step is to enter the world of production"

In this exclusive interview, Max Grillo shares his impressions from the Efimera showcase in Sicily, compares the music scene in Viareggio to other Italian cities, and discusses overcoming challenges after a long break. He also reveals his favorite tools and upcoming projects. Dive into his musical world with us.

What were your first impressions and feelings while playing in Sicily during the Efimera showcase?

Efimera it was a mystical experience. Its land, the sun and its warmth, prepared both us DJs, the staff and all its audience for an evening beyond my imagination. Just wonderful.

How would you describe the music scene in Viareggio compared to other Italian cities where you have played?

Viareggio defends itself well and in this period of the year there is a lot of excitement and both on the part of the professionals and on the part of the customers, there is a great desire to have fun and dance.

What has been your biggest challenge as a DJ and how did you overcome it?

My great challenge was when I decided to take back my life and my passion... after a 20 year break for family reasons. It was a huge sacrifice to update myself with technology, given that I come from the world of vinyl, in any case, overcome and win.

What techniques or tools do you prefer to use during your sets and why?

Certainly, as you may have noticed, my setup is made up of a Model 1.4 mixer and Allen & Heath Xone K2 controller, 1 Boss DD8 as digital delay, Maschine and F1 by Native instruments. As being linked to the Buddhism of Nichiren Daishonin, the rhythm when reciting "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" is compared to a galloping horse, therefore constant, translated as a continuous loop. And thanks to this setup, of which I am madly in love, I can get what I want to convey.

Can you tell us about your future projects and if there are any events or new collaborations you are working on?

Surely, I will continue to collaborate with radio stations specializing in electronic music, which I will never stop thanking for their continuous support. I owe a lot of what I am today to all of them. Certainly the next step is to enter the world of production, as well as DJing.
