Review: Against All Ødds - Reflections (Astral Records)
Astral Records continues its strong spring season by welcoming Against All Ødds back with a new EP, "Reflections".
Previously known as Mimram, the Israeli artist made a mark in 2022 with releases on Freegrant Music, Timeless Moment, and Parquet Recordings, and gained further recognition through Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital. His debut on Astral Records, "Higher Ground", capped off an impressive year.
The title track "Reflections" features tight kick drums, manicured percussion, and rhythmic pulses that create a DJ-friendly intro. Sci-fi vocal samples and wonky synth mutations add depth, while the main break's restraint and tension build to a dynamic synth-driven finale.
The second track, "Lights Out", is aimed at peak hour dancefloors with a blend of classic and contemporary sounds. Holographic synths, rebounding rhythms, and haunting vocal fragments lead to an explosive finish, balancing groovy and powerful elements effortlessly.
Overall, the "Reflections" EP highlights Against All Ødds' talent for crafting intricate and atmospheric tracks, making it a notable addition to Astral Records' catalog.
